Redmond Fire to burn vacant house for training

Redmond Fire & Rescue will be burning a vacant residence donated for training by the owner on Sunday, officials said.

The building is located at the intersection of SW Forest Avenue and SW 4 th St, adjacent to Chase Bank, Training Chief Jake Campbell said in a news release.

Here’s the rest of the announcement:

We will be igniting the building at 494 sW Forest Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Firefighters from various fire departments around Central Oregon will be conducting training with live fire for a few hours prior to allowing the structure to burn down. The process will be completed around 2 p.m..

The area of the building may smolder for several hours or days. The burn is contingent upon unexpected weather changes.

Reader boards will be in place in the area advising traffic. SW Forest Avenue East of SW 5 th Street will be blocked from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. while crews train. SW Fourth street will be blocked to the south of Chase bank for the same time period.
