Good Friday Morning, Everyone…

A powerful WINTER storm system is already bringing heavy snow and rain to the coast, the Willamette Valley and the Cascades. It will quickly thicken our cloud cover and bring rain and snow to the High Desert later today. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s and and the passage of the cold front will deliver southerly winds at 15-25 mph, with gusts to 35 mph.

Tonight’s lows will be dropping into the 20’s so precipitation for all will be turning to snow. Upper elevations to the south will see snow accumulations of 4-8″ by tomorrow morning. Other locations will see snow of 2-4″ gather over the next 24 hours.

Snowfall in the Cascades will be dramatic. Mt. Bachelor is expected to receive 12-20″ of fresh snow over the next 24 hours, with more snow falling Saturday and Sunday. Be cautious of high winds if you are heading up to the mountain today. While this will be great news for ski resorts Spring Break travelers will need extra caution and a great deal of extra time. Pass levels in the Cascades are expected to get as little as 5-11″ of snow today and tonight in the northern Cascades and as much as 12-18″ in the south. Snow in the passes will continue through much of Sunday.

We will stay pretty cold through the weekend and storm activity isn’t expected to cease until we get into Monday. From there a clearing and warming trend will have us in the mid to upper 50’s going through the middle of next week.

HAVE A SPARKLING DAY IN CENTRAL OREGON!
