FBI: Heavily tattooed fugitive arrested in N. California
(Update: Fugitive arrested in N. Calif., appears in court)
The FBI in Portland said Wednesday the California Highway Patrol has arrested a heavily tattooed fugitive sought in connection with threatening phone calls to the FBI.
Shawn Frederick Weatherhead, 46, was arrested by CHP near the town of Legget, in Northern California around 3 p.m. Tuesday as he rode in a vehicle that was stopped for expired tags. He “was cooperative and the arrest was without incident,” the FBI announcement said,
Weatherhead appeared Wednesday in federal court in San Francisco and was ordered held in custody until his next appearance, which is scheduled for April 19.
The FBI in Portland had asked for the public’s help last month assistance in locating Weatherhead, a transient with ties to the Springfield/Eugene area, as well as Eureka, California and Reno, Nevada.
Weatherhead allegedly contacted the FBI’s Public Access Line in Clarksburg, West Virginia or other FBI offices around the country about 1,000 times since December 2015 from locations in California, Oregon and Nevada.
On at least three occasions, between April 1-2 of last year, Weatherhead allegedly threatened to kill people during his calls, FBI-Oregon spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele said. A federal judge from the Northern District of California issued an arrest warrant on October 24, 2017, after prosecutors charged him with interstate communication of a threat to injure the person of another.
Weatherhead has multiple tattoos on his body, including on his forehead, chin, arm, wrist, hand, right leg, and back. Among his many tattoos is the word “dork” tattooed along his throat.
