Milner named Buckingham Elementary principal

Bend-La Pine School Superintendent Shay Mikalson announced Friday that Kevin Milner has been selected to become Buckingham Elementary School’s new principal. Milner is currently the principal at Ewing Young Elementary School in Newberg.

“Kevin brings with him an exceptional history as an elementary leader that we believe will enrich the tight-knit Buckingham community,” Mikalson said in a news release. “We are also excited about his extensive experience leading a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) focused school and believe that leadership will benefit Buckingham students and staff.”

Milner has served as an elementary school principal for 19 years in the Newberg School District and is also currently an administrator for Chehalem Online Learning Alliance in Newberg. Milner was also a teacher for 11 years in Portland and Tigard.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to come to Buckingham. It’s a school that I’ve been watching in a district with a great reputation. This is a dream come true,” Milner said. “I am passionate about STEM-focused learning, which is very engaging and hands on for students, as they problem solve and develop 21 st Century skills.”

Milner will succeed current principal Sunshine Dandurand on July 1.

In other news, f our assistant principals have been selected to serve at Bend-La Pine Schools high schools, beginning July 1. Gabe Pagano will serve as assistant principal at Bend Senior High School. Pagano will fill the position opening when Michael Hicks takes over the role of principal at Mountain View High School.

Susie Heydon and Matt Kitchen will serve as assistant principals at Mountain View. They will fill the openings as Mike Franklin assumes the principal role at Skyline High School and Sean Corrigan assumes a role at Crook County School District.

Reno Holler will serve as assistant principal at Summit High School. He will fill the position opening as Michael McDonald assumes the role of principal at Summit.
