Natural gas leak closes Sunriver Library

(Update: More details)

The Sunriver Library was closed Saturday due to a natural gas leak that crews had yet to locate and resolve, Deschutes Public Library officials said.

“Gas has been turned off to the building and crews are working to identify the source of the leak,” said Chantal Strobel, communications and development manager for the library system.

The leak was discovered around 3 p.m. Friday and the library, at 56855 Venture Lane, closed at that time, Strobel said.

Library system Director Todd Dunkelberg said Saturday they brought in Cascade Natural Gas and Sunriver firefighters when the problem was discovered and the library was evacuated.

He said an inspector is scheduled to visit the library and repair the leak on Sunday. It’s believed it could be related to the building’s 20-year-old heating and cooling system.

Officials expect to reopen the library on Tuesday, as it’s closed each week on Sundays and Mondays.
