Dave Hood, the athletic director for Mountain View High School, has been selected as Athletic Director of the Year by the Oregon Athletic Directors Association, representing all 4A, 5A and 6A districts in Oregon.

“I’m very proud and humbled,” said Hood. “My goal has been to create a culture of care and character and to create opportunities and serve the kids and the coaches.”

Hood has been an athletic director at Mountain View for 16 years. Prior to that, he was a coach and teacher at Mountain View and Cascade Middle School. All told, he has served in Bend-La Pine Schools for 38 years.

“We know that students who are engaged in athletics or activities are more likely to be successful academically,” said Jay Mathisen, deputy superintendent, noting that 53 percent of Bend-La Pine Schools high school students participate in athletics and activities. “We are proud of the work that folks like Dave Hood do to foster and support opportunities for our student athletes. We know that his leadership and tireless efforts have helped enrich the lives and school experiences for thousands of our students.”

The AD of the year is selected for making significant contributions to their school, community, league and the OADA organization. Hood also previously received a lifetime service award from OADA and a partnership award through Oregon School Activities Association.

“Being an AD goes beyond X’s and O’s and goes to what our purpose is. Yes, we want to win, but why are we doing what we are doing?” said Hood. “My favorite part is serving students, families and coaches. Whenever I make a decision, I always look to see how it affects kids and take that to heart.”
