Suspect’s cap links Bend PD, DCSO credit card cases
(Update: New photo released by sheriff’s officers after theft this week)
Bend police and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies are seeking at least three suspects in a recent string of thefts from cars and use of stolen credit cards at area stores – and a big clue they are linked is what appears to be the same suspect wearing the same baseball cap in city and county cases.
Bend Police posted a Facebook message with two photos Thursday on a report of a vehicle illegally entered back on March 3 at the Athletic Club of Bend, where a purse was stolen.
They said credit cards taken from that vehicle were used to fraudulently buy merchandise, and they later located surveillance video of two possible suspects. Anyone with information how to locate them is asked to send a direct message in Facebook or call dispatchers at 541-693-6911.
Sheriff’s Sgt. William Bailey said they believe the older man in the other photos also is one of the two in the Bend police images.
Deputies provided a new photo from a more recent crime a week ago as they sought the public’s help in identifying two men and a woman suspected of stealing items from several cars and then using stolen credit cards to buy items from several area businesses.
Bailey said the three are believed to have conducted several thefts from vehicles on or about March 30. Since then, he said, they used credit cards stolen from the cars to make fraudulent purchases at several department and grocery stores.
In the latest crime, a theft on Monday, April 9 from a vehicle in the Eagle Crest Resort area west of Redmond led to a man in a photo using the victim’s credit card at an undisclosed area retail store.
Bailey said it’s believed to be the younger male in the three store security photos shared earlier.
The sheriff’s office posted security-camera photos of the three suspects on the agency’s Facebook page. More specifics about the locations and details are being withheld for now by investigators, Bailey added.
Anyone who believes they know any of the suspects was asked to contact non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911 or send the department a personal message at its Facebook page, reference Case No. 18-91669.
