Road Rants: Our ‘rules of the road’ series starts Thursday

KTVZ

Some traffic laws change, some don’t – and some just involve common sense. Whatever their history, how hard is it to spot drivers who, for whatever reason, don’t follow the law? Pretty easy, many (most?) drivers would say: Just look around on a typical trip in town.

Ah, but is it always “the other guy”?

NewsChannel 21 reporters set out with their safety vests, clipboards – and a speed radar gun — to put those views to the test. As you might imagine, it wasn’t to hard to catch drivers breaking the traffic laws, large or small.

Our “Road Rants” series begins Thursday, as A.J. Kato explains the expanded “move over” law for emergency vehicles.

Next Tuesday, Mike Allen catches red-light runners, and on Thursday, May 3, Jacob Larsen visits some of the many roundabouts around Bend to see who’s failing to signal or navigating them in risky fashion.

On Tuesday, May 8, Leila Eltouny returns to a familiar topic: distracted driving, be it by phones (against the law), dogs, the kids, makeup, eating, etc.

Lauren Melink’s report on Tuesday, May 15 is about school-zone speeders, while our series wraps up on Thursday, May 17 with the many issues drivers encounter on the Bend Parkway – speeders, tailgaters, aggressive drivers and those who have trouble getting up to speed as they get on the parkway.

The night before each segment, we’ll post a KTVZ.COM Poll to find out how well you know the rules.

So join us, on the air and online, as we look into some of the biggest “Road Rants” — and how the rules really play out on the road.
