Fire destroys home in Juniper Canyon

KTVZ

A fire destroyed a home in the Juniper Canyon area southeast of Prineville Saturday afternoon, but the residents were not home and there were no injuries, officials said.

Crook County Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched around 2:35 p.m. to the fire at a home on Southeast Sharps Road, in an area known as Prineville Lake Acres (PLA) 1, Battalion Chief and Fire Marshal Russell DeBoodt said.

The smoky blaze was called in by several area residents, DeBoodt said.

Firefighters arrived to find the home fully involved in the fire. DeBoodt said the flames also had spread to a few neighboring trees, but “luckily, this time of year is not a significant wildland fire hazard” as of yet.

Two structural engines, two water tenders, an ambulance and a command vehicle responded to the fire, with a total of 10 firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, DeBoodt said, adding that the home was insured.

The American Red Cross was called in so its disaster responders could help the residents with their immediate needs.
