Two Jefferson County men charged in downtown Bend stabbing
(Update: Two suspects arrested in stabbing, others still being sought)
Thanks to photos released by police that prompted citizen tips, two Jefferson County residents have been arrested in the stabbing of a Canby man early Saturday morning outside a downtown Bend nightclub, police said.
Police received several tips late Wednesday after releasing photos from video surveillance in their investigation of the assault outside the Seven Restaurant and Nightclub early last Saturday, Lt. Clint Burleigh said.
That led to the identity of two suspects, Isaias Gutierrez Parra, 22, of Culver, and Edgar Ramirez, 25, of Madras, Burleigh said.
With the help of Prineville police, the two men were arrested in Prineville late Wednesday night. They were taken to the Deschutes County Jail in Bend, where they were booked on third-degree assault charges. Both were released a short time later after meeting release criteria, a jail officer said.
More suspects are being sought as the investigation continues, Burleigh said.
Investigators asked for anyone who can identify the people or vehicle in the photos to call Deschutes County 911 non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.
Officers were dispatched at 1:17 a.m. Saturday to the Seven Restaurant and Nightclub at 1033 Northwest Bond Street on the reported stabbing in front of the establishment, Sgt. Robert Jones said.
Officers arrived and found Antonio Luis Zuniga, 29, of Canby, in front of the nightclub. Jones said he had been stabbed several times but along with witnesses were able to relay information regarding his attackers.
The details in turn were broadcast to other Bend officers, as well as Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers who arrived in the area to assist.
Zuniga was taken to St. Charles Bend for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. A hospital house supervisor said he was in fair condition Saturday afternoon.
Zuniga and other witnesses could provide only limited details of the suspects, Jones said. They were described as four Hispanic males with “fade” haircuts (longer in front than on the back and sides). One suspect was described as wearing a black and red jersey.
Anyone with information in the case or who has videos taken in the area around that time was asked to contact Bend police through the county non-emergency dispatch line at 541-693-6911.
