Bend couple injured in Prineville motorcycle-SUV crash
A Bend couple were hospitalized and a Prineville woman was cited after a motorcycle-SUV crash at a downtown Prineville intersection late Saturday morning, police said.
Prineville police, Crook County sheriff’s deputies, Crook County Fire & Rescue medics, AirLink, Oregon State Police and ODOT reported to the crash around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Northeast Third Street and Combs Flat Road, police Sgt. James Peterson said.
An investigation determined Sandra Kerbow of Prineville was driving a 2014 Ford SUV heading north on Combs Flat Road, making a left turn onto Third Street, Peterson said.
A 2001 BMW motorcycle operated by Dan Jensen of Bend, with his wife, Carol Jensen as passenger, was heading south on Combs Flat Road, crossing through the intersection.
The motorcycle collided with the Ford on the left rear, causing both riders to be thrown, Peterson said. They were taken to St. Charles Prineville with several injuries and later transfered to St. Charles Bend, where a house supervisor said they were in fair condition Saturday night.
Peterson said Kerbow made an inappropriate left turn and was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, a Class B violation with a presumptive fine of $265.
Traffic was slowed and partially detoured after the crash. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
