Have you ever taken a singing class where there are no mistakes? There’s one such class right here in Bend
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) At the Deschutes Public Library for Open Hub Night, it's a night of singing. Everyone is welcome, no matter what your level is, whether or not you're a beginner, you're an amateur, or you're simply a professional or something in between, everyone is welcome.
Every first Monday of the month, the Deschutes Public Library hosts Open Hub Singing Club: ‘Sing at the Library with Ian Carrick.’
Ian says he practices simple, accessible, potent harmonies, rounds, layer songs and more. The best part? Your voice is wanted, as is.
“Singing is really good for you neurologically, no matter where you're at and your age," he says. "When we exhale longer than we inhale, it soothes our whole system, and what I'm trying to create here with Open Hub is -- singing is a place where there's no mistakes. There's no recording, there's no stressful performance. We are singing for the sake of singing, for the sake of belonging, and I would say at every circle, what happens if we make a mistake? Nothing!”
Ian’s students, including Martina Muller, love the fact that there are no such things as vocal mistakes: “It makes me very happy. It makes me feel very connected. Then, everybody voices blend, and it's so much fun because you can't really do anything wrong, because all the voices, they cover you up.”
Ian, who considers himself a “Local Song Leader,” says all ages 8 and up are welcome, no matter your vocal ability, gender, race or class.
Ian has a number of singing events and classes. If you’d like to take a class or, get information, check out Ian’s website at: www.OpenHubSinging.com.
