BLM seeks artist-in-residence to capture Oregon's Yaquina Head beauty

SALEM, Ore. — The Bureau of Land Management is seeking an Artist-in-Residence at the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area in Newport, Oregon. The selected artist will help capture and share the area's natural beauty and cultural stories during the nation's 250th anniversary and the BLM's 80th birthday.

Applications for the residency are open through June 14th, with the residency period scheduled for September 11th–27th, 2026.

This special opportunity aims to celebrate the significant milestone year for both the nation and the Bureau of Land Management. Ricardo Escobar, Head manager, emphasized the program's goal.

"We welcome any applicants who want to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Head," Escobar said. "Creativity and art provide an engaging opportunity to share the value of public lands and their connection to local communities and beyond."

The residency offers artists an immersive opportunity to explore the landscape, create new works, and connect with the public.

Selections for the Artist-in-Residence will be based on the strength of the applicant's portfolio, their resume, a proposed community event, and their creative vision.

The Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area is a dramatic meeting of land and sea. It's 100 acres feature towering cliffs, vibrant tide pools, sweeping ocean views, and abundant wildlife.

Full details and the application form are available on the Yaquina Head Artist-in-Residence webpage. For additional information regarding the program, Sabrina Gorney can be contacted at srgorney@blm.gov.
