Central Oregon law enforcement to present memorial service video
“In honor of those who have died…dedicated to those who live and serve”
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Due to COVID-19, Central Oregon law enforcement agencies, including the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Bend Police Department, Redmond Police Department, Black Butte Police Department, Sunriver Police Department and Oregon State Police will be holding the annual Central Oregon Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony by collaborative video that was assembled with the participating agencies.
The video will be released, simultaneously, on social media platforms by the agencies at 10 a.m. on Friday.
This event memorializes Oregon and officers across the country who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
On October 1, 1962, a proclamation signed by President John F. Kennedy designates the week of May 15 of each year as “Peace Officers’ Memorial Week.”
There are two days that the U.S. law requires American flags to be flown at half-staff; Memorial Day and May 15, Peace Officers Memorial Day. This special tribute to American law enforcement was included in the historic crime bill (Public Law 103-322) signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1994.
