Family Access Network receives $10,000 grant from First Interstate Bank, Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Family Access Network (FAN) received a $10,000 grant through the First Interstate Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines.

At the recommendation of the First Interstate Bank Redmond branch, this matching grant funding will support the FAN mission throughout Central Oregon. FAN advocates offer assistance to students and families facing hardships by connecting them to crucial basic needs with the goal of keeping students in school so they can graduate.

Lyche, FAN Executive Director.

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines is deeply committed to strengthening communities, serving 13 states and three U.S Pacific territories as a member-owned cooperative. They work together with over 1,200 member institutions to support affordable housing, economic development and community improvement.

FHLB Des Moines is one of 11 regional Banks that make up the Federal Home Loan Bank System. Members include community and commercial banks, credit unions, insurance companies, thrifts and community development financial institutions.

This is the second year that FHLB Des Moines offered the Member Impact Fund, which is designed for members to directly strengthen communities within targeted areas in its district. Nearly $20 million in grants have been awarded to hundreds of nonprofits and government entities within Hawaii, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Unique to Central Oregon, FAN began in 1993 and currently employs 30 advocates at 65 sites in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties. These advocates work tirelessly to help families break the cycle of poverty. The direct placement of FAN advocates within schools allows FAN to effectively reach and connect disadvantaged children and families to essential basic needs.
