Broccoli seeds sold on Amazon nationwide recalled for possible salmonella contamination

FDA

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- EAK Distribution LLC is recalling certain Home Grown broccoli seeds sold nationwide through Amazon because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The recall covers 8-ounce packages of Home Grown Green Sprouting Calabrese Broccoli Seeds, Heirloom. The seeds were sold on Amazon between August 20th and September 18th, 2026.

The affected seeds come in a cream-colored pouch with UPC 850056627443. The production lot code AUG172026 is embossed on the top seal.

EAK Distribution said no illnesses have been reported in connection with its product.

The recall began after the company’s supplier said the seeds had been used by a sprout grower whose finished product was part of an FDA investigation into a multistate foodborne illness outbreak.

The supplier later told EAK Distribution that salmonella had been detected in a sample of the broccoli seeds analyzed by the FDA.

Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and lead to more serious illness. Young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of serious or potentially fatal infections.

Customers should not use the recalled seeds and should throw them away. They can contact Amazon for a full refund.

Anyone with questions can call EAK Distribution at 541-306-4278 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday.
