Bend man arrested on drug charges; raid follows

A 48-year-old Bend man was arrested on drug charges while standing on a northeast Bend sidewalk, followed six hours later by a raid on a nearby townhouse, drug agents said Thursday.

Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team detectives arrested Matthew Collins, 48, around 5 p.m. Tuesday on drug charges as he stood near the intersection of U.S. Highway 20E and Dean Swift Road, said CODE Team Lt. Ken Mannix.

The arrest resulted from a short-term investigation of methamphetamine trafficking throughout Deschutes County, Mannix said.

Around 11 p.m. Tuesday, detectives executed a search warrant at a townhouse on Nates Place, just off Dean Swift Road, Mannix said. The raid resulted from information connecting Collins and that home, Mannix said.

Evidence seized included nearly a half-ounce of meth, a scale, packaging material, cash and other evidence of drug sales and distribution.

Collins was booked into the Deschutes County Jail on charges of drug possession and distribution as well as coercion. He was released the next day after posting 10 percent of his $20,000 bail, jail officers said.
