Grinding tool sparks brushfire in NW Redmond
Sparks from a grinder apparently ignited a brushfire in a vacant northwest Redmond lot Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Redmond fire crews were called to 413 NW Larch Avenue around 2:30 p.m., said Fire Marshal Traci Cooper. They arrived to find grass, trees and brush on fire in the vacant lot, with two structures in close proximity.
A dozen fire personnel were called in and quickly extinguished the blaze, stopping it from approaching the buildings, Cooper said.
The fire was traced to a grinder being used to work on some equipment at a neighboring business, the fire marshal said.
There were no injuries and the fire was confined to the grass, brush and trees, Cooper said.
