Middle school students gather food bank donations
Eight students from Cascade Middle School are collecting canned food to help the hungry in Central Oregon this winter.
The students taking part in the collection are part of the National Junior Honor Society, an organization that recognizes outstanding students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
All food collected will be donated to the NeighborImpact Food Bank. NeighborImpact is a private not-for-profit organization that serves all of Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties.
Canned food donations can be dropped off now through December 16 at the StateFarm Insurance office of James Chrisman (1288 SW Simpson Avenue, Suite B1, Bend) Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and at Touchmark at Mt. Bachelor Village (19800 SW Touchmark Way, Bend). In addition, the group is holding a canned-food drive at Newport Market in Bend on Saturday, November 10, from 2:00–4:00 p.m.
At all locations donations can be placed in containers that are decorated in a variety of college team colors. Donors are encouraged to show their team spirit by filling the box that displays their favorite team colors.
Eight boys are part of the group collecting for NeighborImpact: Cole Chrisman, Cameron Davis, Tucker Duggan, Dane Hansen, Andy Jones, Grady MacMillan, Eric Wasserman, and AJ Weichman.
