Bend Habitat for Humanity celebrates 100th home
So far, 100 homes, built from the ground up in Bend — and the 100th family is starting its life again.
On Friday, Amber Schmied and her 3-year-old daughter, Kassidie, celebrated the end of a two-year endeavor and a Bend Area Habitat for Humanity milestone by moving into their new home.
Habitat helps low-income families afford homes they normally wouldn’t be able to buy.
Despite medical issues, Amber was there every step of the way.
A dedicated team of volunteers has been alongside Amber the entire time to make her dream come true.
Schmied says she’s truly grateful.
“There’s nothing I can really say other than ‘thank you,'” she said. “Everything they’ve done is to give us this gift. and there’s nothing I could ever say or do that can help them understand how much this means.”
Since 1976, Habitat International has helped more than 500,000 families worldwide gain a new home, with “sweat equity,” love and community.
