Deschutes libraries to join in World Book Night
How would you like to give away 20 copies of a book you love — to complete strangers?
World Book Night is coming up in April, but the Deschutes Public Library needs some book givers to sign up soon.
More than 80,000 readers from around the world are expected to give away more than 2 million books on April 23.
It’s all in an effort to inspire others to read.
This year, the Deschutes libraries will be a distribution center for book givers. It’s the first time the library has participated.
Those participating will give away 20 copies of a specially printed edition of a book they have loved.
“It’s fun for people who enjoy reading to go out and give away free books to people who may not read as much or have the opportunity to purchase books.” librarian Liisa Sjoblom said Saturday.
If you would like to be a book giver, the library encourages you to go to the World Book Night website at www.us.worldbooknight.org.
The application deadline is Jan. 23.
World Book Night started in 2011 and is always on April 23, which also happens to be Shakespeare’s birthday.
