Bend Parks buying land by Senior Center

KTVZ

The Bend Park and Recreation District Board of Directors authorized staff Tuesday night to purchase a 4.5-acre parcel of land at the corner of SE 15th Street and Reed Market Road, adjacent to the Bend Senior Center.

The board voted 4-0 (with Ruth Williamson absent) to authorize staff to pay up to $600,000 (plus related closing costs) to Dan and Peggy Barnett for the parcel.

“This land purchase will allow future expansion of the Bend Senior Center, as well a second egress into Larkspur Park off 15th Street,” explains Don Horton, BPRD executive director.

The board also authorized the park district to enter into an agreement with the city of Bend for a portion of the parcel for future intersection improvements at the corner.

The action represents the second secured land purchase agreement for projects pledged in the November 2012 bond measure.
