Bend extends water treatment panel deadline

KTVZ

The city of Bend is still accepting applications for positions on a water treatment advisory group.

Members will be appointed by the City Council to evaluate treatment options for the surface water project.

The committee will consist of seven to nine voting members in addition to up to three ex-officio members. The first meeting is scheduled to take place in early June, with a recommendation from the committee due to the City Council in September.

Committee work will emphasize value-based decision making; evaluating the issue as a community investment that weighs risks and costs associated with treatment options, supported by sound, independent technical information.

In March 2012, the City Council passed a resolution for the project prioritizing the replacement of the aging pipelines and intake facility while slowing further design and construction of the water treatment plant pending additional public input. The Council reaffirmed that approach earlier this year and set the guidelines for public involvement in the water treatment decision.

The City Council encourages individuals with experience in finance or engineering, rate payers, large water users, and business owners to apply. In addition to a City committee application, those interested must submit a separate cover letter stating how their experience and skills are aligned with the ideal candidate member profile.

Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 17. For applications or questions, please contact:
