Summit High band takes state — again

KTVZ

Another Central Oregon high school band made some noise this weekend, winning a state title in Corvallis. Summit’s varsity band, “Summit Winds,” won its third straight state Class 5A championship last Friday.

Band Director Dan Judd told us Tuesday he doesn’t like to talk about placement and rankings.

He says teaching the kids to create meaningful music and achieving their best possible performance is his goal.

Still…

“To come into a real high-pressure performance, and to not only survive in it but really to thrive in it — it’s just a blast to see the kids have that kind of experience,” Judd said. “That, to me, is the big motivator — not another trophy.”

Earlier this month, Redmond’s Ridgeview High won the Class 4Aa state title..

At Summit in Bend, the varsity band is open by audition. Auditions for next year’s group are taking place next month.
