BPRD summer youth softball, baseball registration

KTVZ

When it comes to American traditions, summer calls as much for baseball and softball as it does apple pie and Fourth of July.

With registration currently open, local youth are invited to join in two of America’s long-loved sports with Bend Park and Recreation District’s summer baseball and softball program.

With limited space available, the program is open to boys and girls ages six to twelve years old (as of August 8th, 2013) and runs eight weeks from June 17th to August 8th.

Placed on teams grouped by age, children will be introduced to organized baseball and softball in a fun, encouraging environment with enthusiastic and knowledgeable coaching staff.

All coaches are specifically trained to work with youth and must also pass background checks.

Teams meet twice a week with practices and games held during the day, Monday through Thursday.

Practices are at Harmon, Juniper and Stover Parks and games played at the Skyline Sports Complex on Bend’s west side.

There is no evening or weekend play, allowing families to enjoy other summer fun as well.

The program fee is $60 for in-district residents and $81 for out-of-district residents. Registration is available at www.bendparksandrec.org and is on a first-come, first-served basis. For additional information, contact Rich Ekman, BPRD Sports Coordinator at (541) 706-6126.
