ODOT summer road work map online
The Oregon Department of Transportation has published its 2013 Summer Construction map, highlighting more than 100 work zones operating on the state’s roads. It is available for free at DMV field offices, ODOT offices and visitor centers around the state. It is also available online.
This year’s map features QR codes for several major projects so travelers with smart phones can scan the icon and visit a website for detailed information on that specific project. The map offers details on closures and timelines for projects such as those on I-84 between Pendleton and La Grande; on the Banfield Freeway in Portland; and on I-5 between Central Point and Gold Hill, to name a few.
Motorists can also get tips for staying safe as they maneuver through the work zones.
The most important action drivers can take is to pay complete attention to the driving task. Most work zone crashes take place in the transition area leading into a work zone.
Motorists should begin to slow down as soon as they see orange barrels, work zone signs or other indications that a work zone is nearing.
In 2012, six people lost their lives in work zone crashes. “Seeing orange” is a good first step toward improving safety while crews are building “better roads ahead” for Oregonians and visitors to our state.
