Woman arrested after Hwy. 97 high-speed chase
A 28-year-old Portland woman driving a car stolen in Lane County stole gas in Chemult, then led police on a high-speed chase at speeds topping 100 mph until spike strips stopped the car near Klamath Falls and she was arrested, Oregon State Police said.
Shortly after 8 a.m., an OSP trooper spotted a 1995 Buick four-door that was the subject of an “attempt to locate: bulletin following theft of fuel in the Chemult area, troopers said.
The vehicle also was determined to have been reported stolen earlier that morning from the Eugene/Springfield area, they said.
The trooper tried to pull the woman over near milepost 246, but the driver sped up and tried to elude officers, heading south at speeds topping 100 mph, troopers said.
As the car approached Klamath Falls, Klamath County sheriff’s deputies and Klamath Falls police successfully deployed spike strips near milepost 267.
The driver pulled the stolen car over about four miles later, where officers initiated a felony stop at gunpoint and took Jennifer B. Jones, 28, into custody.
Jones was lodged in the Klamath County Jail on charges of car theft, felony attempt to elude, first-degree theft, reckless driving and furnishing false information to a police officer.
Jones also was cited for driving with a suspended license and exceeding the posted speed in excess of 100 mph.
