C. Oregon boaters ready for summer heat

A stretch of warmer days expected on the High Desert may have many Central Oregonians headed to nearby lakes and rivers. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is asking you to be safe when you hit the waterways.
Deputy Bradley Hamlin spends much of his summer patrolling Lake Billy Chinook.
“Occasionally, you will find a fire extinguisher that’s been discharged or sat too long and has just gone bad,” said Hamlin.
He says before you leave the the dock, make sure to double-check you have everything needed for a good day on the lake.
Hamlin says to make sure you have an Oregon Boater Education card, a working horn or sound device, a fire extinguisher — and most importantly, a life jacket
“The life jackets have to fit the person that is on board the boat,” he said. “I mean, some people will have child life jackets for a full grown person — and that doesn’t work.”
