Hwy. 97 traffic stop leads to meth, arrest
A California man was arrested on drug charges Sunday after an Oregon State Police traffic stop in Klamath Falls turned up about 11 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in his SUV, troopers said.
According to Sgt. Patrick Trippett, around 9:15 a.m., an OSP trooper stopped a 1991 Land Rover Discovery with Nevada license plates heading north on Highway 97 near milepost 274 for an unspecified moving traffic violation.
Driver James E. Gonzalez, 25, of Norwalk, Calif., was alone in the SUV, he said.
An investigation during the traffic stop led the trooper to discover concealed inside the vehicle about 11 pounds of methamphetamine. Troopers said the estimated value of the seized meth is $143,000.
Gonzalez was lodged in the Klamath County Jail on charges of drug possession, distribution and manufacture.
