Prineville ‘Kids Day at Carnival’ big success

For the second year in a row, the Prineville Police Department partnered with the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Crook County Fire and Rescue, the Crook County District Attorney’s Office, the Oregon Army National Guard and local non-profit, “For the Children” to provide a free ride day at the Carnival for young children.

Donations are gathered throughout the year that pay for unlimited ride wrist bands for any child, 12 years old and younger, who came to the Carnival held at the former Stryker Field park during Round Up week.

Local public safety agencies and the National Guard had static equipment displays and the Police Department fitted and gave away hundreds of children’s bicycle helmets, provided under a grant. A number of other displays and resources were available for parents interested in enhancing their children’s safety.

This year, many officials participated in the event, to include Sheriff Jim Hensley and Chief Eric Bush.

The event, which ran officially from Noon to 3:00pm on Thursday, June 27th attracted more than 1500 children under 12 and their family members. The event culminated with the fire department water cannon being spayed into the park during the heat of the afternoon.

Les Schwab Tires, Prineville Disposal, For the Children, Oregonian’s Credit Union and 7-11 all sponsored the event, which was held in cooperation with Cascade Amusements.
