From toddlers running a half-mile to elite athletes taking on the marathon and triathlons, it was a big weekend for athletes and Sunriver.

The 17th annual Pacific Crest Sports Festival attracted more than 5,500 participants and hundreds of spectators.

The competition began Friday with the Tour de Crest bike tour, the half and full marathons on Saturday, and on Sunday the triathlons, 5 and 10Ks and the kids’ races.

One family participated in multiple events, from grandparents to grandchildren, and will be taking more than 20 medals home.

“”It’s fabulous — we love it, they’re all athletic and we just have a great time,” grandmother Debra Taylor said about racing with her six grandchildren.

Another woman did the 5K to celebrate finishing chemotherapy and beating lymphoma.

“I wanted to do this to kind of test myself,” Beaverton resident Charlotte McCreight said. “And my goal is to do the half-marathon here next year with a granddaughter.”
