NeighborImpact receives Fred Meyer Fund grant
NeighborImpact announced Thursday it has received a $20,000 community grant from the Fred Meyer Fund for its food recovery program.
“Hunger reduction is an issue that so many of our customers and employees are passionate about and we are excited to be able to help an organization like NeighborImpact as they work to provide meals throughout the area,” said Zach Stratton, philanthropy coordinator for Fred Meyer stores. “Our employees throughout the company have been extremely generous, and their annual donations allow us to make grants like this that impact the communities where they live and work.”
“This grant is key to supporting the efforts of our food recovery program. ” notes Sandy Klein, NeighborImpact food resource specialist. “We will use this money to pick up donated perishable food from local grocery stores and redistribute it to food pantries, shelters, meal sites, and brown bag programs all over Central Oregon.”
Fred Meyer Fund community grants are funded solely by donations from Fred Meyer employees. The $1.4 million collected through associate donations in 2013 will be allocated by the Fred Meyer Fund as community grants in the four western states where the company operates.
In conjunction with this award, Fred Meyer has also been named this year’s title sponsor for NeighborImpact’s signature fundraising event, Empty Bowls, which will be held at the Central Oregon Community College Campus on November 17.
About the Fred Meyer Fund: The Fred Meyer Fund awards grants to nonprofit organizations dedicated to youth development, hunger reduction, military family support, cancer research and awareness and environmental education. It is funded solely through employee donations, mostly via payroll deduction, from the 133 Fred Meyer stores throughout Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Since its inception in 1998, the Fred Meyer Fund has awarded over $15 million in grants to nonprofits in the four states in which the company has stores.
