KTVZ

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is currently participating in a statewide traffic safety campaign focusing on DUII enforcement during the 2013 holiday season. The campaign will continue through January 2, 2014.

As part of the campaign, the sheriff’s office will increase traffic patrols directly focusing on DUII related investigations.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office along with the Oregon Department of Transportation encourages all drivers and passengers to make a conscious effort to use their seatbelt at all times while traveling in a motor vehicle, regardless of the distance traveled.

Furthermore, we encourage all drivers to drink responsibly. If drivers intend to drink, please plan ahead and use a designated driver, taxi service, or public transportation. During the New Year’s period, between 2007 and 2011, an estimated 42% of traffic fatalities were the result of drinking and driving. (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office will be partnering with agencies throughout the State of Oregon for this campaign.
