Madras seeks planning commission members

The City of Madras Community Development Department is currently accepting applications for two vacancies on the City Planning Commission.

The Commission reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council and other public authorities on public thoroughfares, traffic issues, housing and sanitation conditions, future growth, development, and beautification of the City in respect to its public and private buildings, streets, parks, grounds, and vacant lots, plans for promotion, development, and regulation of industrial and economic needs of the community.

The Planning Commission also makes recommendations to the City Council for the adoption of or amendment to the City’s Comprehensive Plan, and the City’s land use ordinances (e.g. Sign Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, and Zoning Ordinance).

The Planning Commission consists of seven voting members, and generally meets on the first, and at times, on the third Wednesday of each month.

One interested individual will complete an unexpired term which will not expire until December 31, 2015. A second interested individual will be appointed to serve a three year term. There can be two individuals appointed from the City’s Urban Growth Boundary or both vacancies can be filled by residents of the City of Madras.

Letters of interest should be submitted or hand delivered to Community Development Director, Nick Snead, at 125 S.W. “E” Street, Madras, Oregon 97741-1346 on or before February 17, 2014.
