Redmond-area pair held in string of mail-ID thefts
A Redmond-area couple was arrested Monday during a raid on their mobile home, accused in a string of mail, ID and credit card thefts and forgeries across much of Oregon over the past few months, police said.
Redmond police have been investigating several cases of ID theft, forgery, fraudulent use of a credit card and mail thefts, said Det. Sgt. Brad McMurrian.
So far, Amanda Jo Reeves (also known as Amanda Jo Moore), 39, and Brandon Joel Hastings, 34, have been tied to incidents across Oregon since last Nov. 1, including ones in Redmond, Bend, Springfield, Eugene and Jefferson and Coos counties, McMurrian said.
The total tally has not been made, officers said, as more victims may be forthcoming.
Redmond police and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant Monday at the couple’s home at the Cline Falls Mobile Home Park off Highway 126 west of Redmond. They were arrested at that time, police said.
The couple are accused of stealing mail and using the victims’ personal information to conduct illegal activity, including using victims’ names to apply for and receive credit cards and making online and retail store purchases with those credit cards, McMurrian said.
Reeves and Hastings were booked into the Deschutes County jail, each charged with nearly 30 counts of organized retail theft, aggravated and first-degree theft, aggravated identity theft, computer crime, ID theft and fraudulent use of a credit card. Bail for each totaled over $300,000.
