Dropped cigarette triggers Hwy. 126 crash
A Prineville man escaped injury early Sunday when his pickup truck flipped on Highway 126 after he dropped a cigarette in his lap, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies and Crook County Fire and Rescue medics responded to the single-vehicle crash near milepost 12, west of Prineville, said sheriff’s Sgt. James Savage.
Deputies found driver Preston Lee Cain, 49, still in the 1998 Toyota pickup on its side, Savage said. He was unhurt, but crews had to free him from the truck.
Savage said Cain had been heading west when he dropped a cigarette in his lap and got distracted. He lost control of the truck, which slid onto the shoulder and overturned, coming to rest facing east.
No citations were issued, Savage said.
