Redmond celebrates Park and Rec Month
Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month. Created by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
Park and Recreation Month specifically highlights the vital role local parks and recreation, such as Redmond Area Park and Recreation and the City of Redmond Parks Department, play in conservation, health and wellness, and social equity efforts in communities all across the country.
Redmond City Council proclaimed July 2014 as Park and Recreation month in Redmond, during their meeting on June 24, 2014.
The theme this year is Out is In, making 2014 the year people go outside, change their outlook, and get involved in their community through parks and recreation. As part of this month’s celebration, Redmond Area Park and Recreation District is highlighting some of their outdoor programs including, Summer in the Park, Camp Tamarack, Gardening, and Horseback Riding.
In addition to participating the recreation programs offered through RAPRD, the community has the opportunity to participate in a park and recreation photo contest hosted by the City of Redmond Parks Department and RAPRD. We are looking for digital images taken during the month of July that celebrates the City of Redmond and RAPRD parks and programs. We are especially interested in images that showcase the parks and recreation programs and people recreating at the parks and involved in recreation programs offered by RAPRD.
Community members are encouraged to take photos of themselves recreating in local parks or participating in an outdoor recreation programs to further encourage community members to get out in our local parks. Photo judging categories are RAPRD programs, favorite park and favorite activity and prizes will be award for the top two photos in each category.
Digital Photos will be accepted until August 3, 2014 and must be submitted at the following location; Photos will be judged by both RAPRD and City of Redmond representatives and winners will be announced late August. More information about the contest including the contest rules is available at www.raprd.org.
