Family Access Network receives donation
The Family Access Network Foundation has received a generous $5,000 donation from The Bend Foundation to help connect families to basic-need services in Deschutes County.
The funds will go directly to serve our most needy population, children whose families struggle to meet essential needs such as food, shelter, health care, clothing, and more.
The Bend Foundation, a philanthropic organization established and funded by Brooks-Scanlon, Brooks Resources, and its shareholders help support local programs such as FAN, among many other programs vital to the cultural heartbeat of the area.
Community spirit is an important component of the Brooks Resources corporate philosophy. Brooks Resources Corporation, one of the oldest and most respected real estate development companies in the area, donates a portion of its pre-tax profits to Central Oregon charitable endeavors each year.
During the 2013-14 school year, FAN served over 10,000 children and family members in Deschutes County. FAN advocates assisted 4,682 individuals with clothing, connected 3,085 people to food resources, helped 2,546 family members with heating and utility assistance, and connected 2,026 family members to shelter or housing options.
FAN began in January 1993 and currently employs 23 advocates in 46 public schools (K-12) and three early childhood sites. FAN strives to improve lives by ensuring all children in Deschutes County have access to basic-need services. FAN is unique to Deschutes County, utilizing advocates to efficiently reach and connect disadvantaged children and families with basic needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, and health care. By removing these barriers, children are able to attend school.
