NeighborImpact one of ‘100 Best Nonprofits’
For the third year in a row, NeighborImpact is named one of the 100 best nonprofits to work for by Oregon Business Magazine.
The organization improves over its 2013 ranking of 32 nd to 27 th in 2014. This is a highly competitive process, with over 5,500 employees from 180 nonprofits participating in the survey.
The 100 Best Nonprofits list is designed to highlight an important sector of Oregon’s economy that currently employs 140,000 people or 12 percent of all private sector jobs in Oregon, according to the Nonprofit Association of Oregon. The survey asks employees to rate their organizations based upon work environment, management and communications, mission, career development, benefits, and hiring practices.
“Our employees are involved with meeting people’s most basic needs, often when they are in crisis,” explains Scott Cooper, NeighborImpact’s executive director. “We try to take care of our employees, because that’s what allows them to take care of others, appropriately and compassionately. We take great pride in knowing our employees enjoy coming to work every day.”
NeighborImpact is Central Oregon’s largest social-services nonprofit with 190 employees serving Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties. The organization’s work is highly diverse, operating Head Start programs, Child Care Resources, the regional food bank, energy assistance, weatherization, a lending program, emergency housing, along with financial coaching and home ownership assistance.
Oregon Business Magazine says nonprofits do better than other sectors when it comes to providing equal opportunities for women and minorities. On average, more than 60 percent of the 100 Best Nonprofits employ women in senior management roles. Employees of nonprofits also show a high satisfaction rate for their workplaces’ flexibility in allowing employees to balance family, community, and job obligations.
