A Ridgeview, Washington man was in good condition Saturday at a Bend hospital where he was flown after crashing his ATV in an off-road area east of Bend, officials said.

Deschutes County dispatchers got a call around 1:45 p.m. Friday of an injury ATV crash in the area of the OHV Camp II staging area east of Bend, said sheriff’s Deputy Russell Stanage, assistant operations manager for Sheriff’s Search and Rescue.

First reports indicated the rider, later identified as Steve Headley, 51, was on an ATV trail about a mile from the nearest road and was unable to stand or walk due to his injuries, Stanage said.

Two SAR ATV teams responded to the location, on Trail 20 about a mile north of Forest Service Road 1835. Medics stabilized Headley and brought him to Bend Fire medics staged near the road.

Headley was flown by Air Link helicopter to St. Charles Bend with serious injuries, Stanage said. A nursing supervisor said he was in good condition Saturday at the hospital.
