Over-served? OLCC looks into three Bend businesses
Three Bend businesses are being investigated by the Oregon Liquor Commission to determine if they served too much alcohol on recent occasions.
Pappy’s Pizzeria, The Summit Saloon & Stage and Seven are under open investigations, the agency confirmed Tuesday.
OLCC representative said they could not offer any details because the investigations are ongoing.
Pappy’s Pizzeria in Bend fell under scrutiny after a Redmond man left the establishment on Sept. 26 and crashed his SUV on Highway 97 north of Bend, killing his stepdaughter and injuring four others.
Oregon State Police is assisting in that investigation.
Meanwhile, two downtown Bend establishments, Summit Saloon & Stage and Seven, are both being investigated for possibly over-serving those involved in a fight on Sept. 28, which ended with a California police officer pulling a gun.
Deschutes District Attorney Patrick Flaherty called the circumstances leading to the downtown fight “deplorable,” but said the officer did not commit a prosecutable offense.
He also stated Friday in an email to NewsChannel 21 that all of those involved in the dispute were “very intoxicated and added: “Some question, with good reason, how so many individuals were over-served to such a degree.”
The owner of Summit Saloon & Stage told NewsChannel 21 the men were not over-served at his establishment.
The station also reached out to both Pappy’s Pizzeria and Seven, but our calls were not returned.
OLCC officials said over-serving cases are difficult to prove. You have to show the individual as visibly intoxicated, and that the server was aware of it and served the person anyway.
