A missing, endangered 14-year-old Bend girl reported as a runaway Thursday was found Saturday by a retired police officer and his wife, lying in a field near a northeast Bend intersection, officers said.

The retired officer and his wife were traveling in the area shortly before noon when they noticed the teen, Shannia Kay-Marie Martinez, lying in a field near the corner of Southeast 15th Street and Lostine Circle, said Lt. Ken Mannix.

Police and fire medics responded to the scene and took the girl to St. Charles Bend for a medical evaluation, Mannix said.

“I believe she is fine,” Mannix told NewsChannel 21, adding that she was being treated when officers left and had been reunited with her family.

“The Bend Police Department would like to thank the public for assistance in this case,” Mannix said in a news release.

Shannia Kay-Marie Martinez was reported as a runaway from her southeast Bend residence around 1 p.m. Thursday, Officer Camille Christensen said Friday.

“Martinez has severe mental health issues that requires needed medication,” Christensen said in a news release. She had been without medication since (Wednesday.

“Generally, Martinez is approachable, but may currently display odd behavior due to lack of medication,” she added.
