AARP Tax Aide seeks volunteers, offers help
Volunteering : The AARP TaxAide program provides free IRS certified tax preparation & electronic filing service to residents in Deschutes County. AARP membership is NOT required either to take advantage of the service or to volunteer. Each year the TaxAide program seeks out those wanting to help as volunteer greeters . As a greeter, you work with clients in taking/making client appointments, greeting clients when they arrive and completing personal information forms. Greeters do not do other people’s taxes, although if a volunteer is interested in becoming IRS certified as a VITA/AARP tax preparer, there are opportunities. If you are interested in volunteering as a greeter, you would work at the NeighborImpact center near the Redmond Airport.
2014 Tax Return Help : AARP TaxAide is part of the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance [VITA] / Tax Counseling for the Elderly [TCE] program. AARP TaxAide is the largest volunteer/non profit tax preparation service in the United States. The TaxAide service does not require clients to be AARP members or have income level restrictions. Clients range from youngsters filing taxes for the first time, single parents, widows, the disadvantaged, the elderly, immigrants and just average folks with young families. Please call for an appointment. TaxAide counselors can do amended returns and can deal with most tax situations including capital gains, home sales/moving, itemization and self employment. There are some exceptions/limitations, so be sure to ask if you think your return might be affected [owning rental properties or taking depreciation are examples of returns that would be ‘out of scope’ for VITA/TaxAide assistance]. If you would like to get help with preparing & E-filing your 2014 Federal and Oregon personal tax return please call AARP TaxAide 541 526-3834 [appointments are available beginning February 2 nd ].
