Attic fire hits Prineville-area home

KTVZ

The Red Cross was called to help three people whose home was hit by a destructive attic fire northwest of Prineville on Thursday morning, causing an estimated $30,000 damage.

Crook County Fire and Rescue responded to Northwest Reata Road at 10 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the gable-end vents of the 1,400-square-foot home, said Fire Marshal Casey Kump.

All of the occupants had left the home before firefighters arrived, Kump said. There were no injuries.

The attic sustained substantial damage from the flue fire, which originated from the wood stove chimney, according to Kump, who said the home had no working smoke detectors.

The American Red Cross was called in to assist the three adult tenants.
