Prineville air quality meeting on March 31
The city of Prineville, Crook County and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality invite everyone to a public meeting on Tuesday, March 31, at 6:30 pm, at the Meadow Lakes Golf Course’s Conference Room, 300 SW Meadow Lakes Drive, Prineville.
The purpose of the meeting is to proactively educate the public on air quality in Prineville. While the area generally has good air quality, there are periods during the year, typically in the winter, when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards are exceeded.
The Oregon DEQ has been working closely with an Air Quality Task Force in Prineville, made up of city and county officials, local business people, and residents to address the issue.
During the meeting, DEQ will do a presentation about when and why poor air quality occurs; and will discuss with city and county officials methods of addressing the problem.
Realizing that exceeding air quality standards has the potential of impairing economic development in the region, city and county officials want to proactively address the issue by working together on the problem, while at the same time educating and informing the public.
“I encourage the public to attend to hear what the DEQ has to say about air quality; and also to hear how the community plans on proactively addressing the concern,” said Phil Stenbeck, Planning Director with the City of Prineville.
