Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades (VIM) is pleased to announce the recent award of a $5,000 grant from Les Schwab Tire Centers. The gift provides funding that will support ongoing volunteer training.

Les Schwab Tire Centers has invested in the success of VIM’s volunteer program since 2011.

“We are very thankful for Les Schwab’s continued support of our volunteer program,” said Kat Mastrangelo, Executive Director of VIM. “With their help, we are able to provide cultural competency training for our volunteers so that they are armed with the skills and information needed to effectively interact with our increasing Latino patient population.”

VIM provides healthcare on a donation basis to uninsured, low-income adults that are not eligible for, or able to access, medical care through Affordable Care Act programs. VIM’s goal is to keep working adults in the tri-county area as healthy as possible so that they can work, take care of their families, and be contributing members of our community.

This model of care is made possible through the big-hearted efforts of hundreds of generous donors, more than 250 clinic volunteers, and over 400 medical providers located throughout Central Oregon.

“A recent report states that there are still more than 17,000 uninsured adults living in the tri-county area,” stated Mastrangelo. “With the help of our dedicated volunteers and supportive donors, VIM will continue to serve the working and uninsured for as long as there is a need.”
