Bend woman injured in Third St. rollover crash
A Bend woman was reported in good condition Thursday at St. Charles Bend, the day after a rollover crash on Third Street that police said may have been tied to a medical condition.
Police and fire medics responded just after 7 p.m. Wednesday to the reported single-vehicle crash on Northeast Third Street at DeKalb Avenue, said Lt. Clint Burleigh.
Officers found an overturned 2013 silver Honda CRV on the southbound side of Third, just north of DeKalb, with heavy damage and a driver later identified as Vicki Jo Cudek, 56, trapped inside, Burleigh said. A power pole on the northeast corner of the intersection was damaged as well.
Fire, police and an off-duty doctor were able to stabilize Cudek and remove her from the wreckage.
An investigation found that Cudek, alone in the car, was heading north on Third Street and “may have experienced some sort of medical condition,” Burleigh said in a news release. She lost control of her car, which crossed over the southbound lanes before hitting the power pole.
The crash investigation and clean-up closed Third Street between Franklin and Burnside avenues for just over an hour, with traffic diverted onto nearby streets.
The driver was wearing a seat belt, and neither alcohol nor speed are believed to have been factors in the crash, the lieutenant added.
