Calibrate sprinklers to avoid overspray issues

KTVZ

It’s spring again in Central Oregon! It’s time for irrigation systems to be turned on after sitting idle all winter. Most systems need to be re-calibrated to make sure proper coverage happens over planted areas.

At this time of year, systems that aren’t correctly aimed at vegetation can cause overspray onto sidewalks and streets. Wet areas can turn into ice and be slick during the early morning hours.

Pedestrian and cyclist accidents occur on icy sidewalks and streets, sometimes resulting in injury. While accidents are not common, they may be preventable with cooperation from property owners and the landscape contracting industry. Please test all systems to make sure walkways and roadways are not being irrigated.

The Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is a County appointed committee that works to promote and encourage safe bicycling and walking as a significant means of transportation in Deschutes County.
