Rash of car break-ins hit NE Redmond
Redmond police released surveillance video Friday in hopes of public tips to help catch whoever is rifling through cars in northeast and possibly other parts of town as well.
Police are searching for the suspect or suspects responsible for 25 to 30 car break-ins in the northeast side of town late Wednesday and early Thursday.
Police Lt. Brad McMurrian says some of the car break-ins were physically broken into, while in other cases, the cars were left unlocked.
One victim on Northeast Negus Loop said she found her car door open.
“They just left the door open — somebody went through our stuff, really nicely, kind of left it there and didn’t take anything,” Awbrey Johannsen said.
But the same or similar thieves may have hit another part of town later in the week.
Danielle Keating, who lives off Southwest Metolius Avenue, experienced a similar vehicle break-in Friday morning.
“In the glove box, everything had been gone through,” Keating said. “Looks like they may have taken just some random mail, but they left all of my car payment information, my registration, my insurance. They didn’t touch my stereo or my speakers.”
Police say Keating’s case is similar to the incidents in the northeast area of town.
Last weekend, residents in another area of northeast Redmond captured still photos of a man looking through their cars, someone that matches a similar description to the surveillance video.
LMcMurrian says the suspect appears to be a heavy-set man with a beard
Anyone with information that could help solve the car break-ins is asked to contact Redmond police at (541) 504-3400.
