Hwy. 58 detour back in place as dairy semi removed
A detour was reestablished Tuesday on Oregon Highway 58 (the Willamette Hwy.), about two miles west of Oakridge, as crews righted and removed a truck that was hauling dairy products when it left the highway and overturned Monday.
Late Monday afternoon, ODOT said the overturned semi would not be removed until Tuesday. Crews completed offloading of cargo around 7 p.m., Monday, allowing the highway to be reopened.
Travelers should anticipate only a short delay during the detour, ODOT said.
Oregon State Police said the truck driver was unhurt when the rig failed to negotiate a curve..
As the offloading began, ODOT said the cargo, previously reported to be cheese, appeared to be dairy products, including sour cream.
As much of the salvaged cargo as possible will be distribute to area nonprofits, officials said.
